A Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel lost his life in an ongoing encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Kathua district, the Indian Army’s Rising Star Corps reported.

The encounter erupted in the Suffain area of Kathua during an anti-terrorist operation conducted by security forces. Following the exchange of fire, the area has been cordoned off, and a search operation is underway.

On Thursday, security forces had reported gunfire in the same area after spotting suspected terrorists. Earlier, on March 23, another exchange of fire occurred in Hiranagar, Kathua, during a search operation by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Indian Army’s Rising Star Corps.

In response to intelligence inputs regarding terrorist movements, security forces launched a joint operation in Hiranagar, Kathua, last week.
“Based on intelligence input regarding the presence of terrorists, a joint operation has been launched by Jammu and Kashmir Police and troops of Rising Star Corps in the general area of Saniyal, Hiranagar. Operations are in progress,” the Army stated.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir police conducted extensive searches in Anantnag on Wednesday as part of an investigation into banned terror outfits. With security concerns on the rise, forces remain on high alert to prevent the resurgence of militant activities in the region.

As the operation continues, security forces remain engaged in neutralizing the threat posed by terrorists in the region. Further updates on the situation are awaited.
